NATIONAL LEVEL WORKSHOP ON MARINE BIOTECHNOLOGY FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

About the Training Program
The potential of Marine Biotechnology industry has been well realized now. Many Universities and research laboratories across the nation have started to strengthen their research capabilities on Marine Biotechnology. Government of Tamil Nadu has also initiated a multi billion dollar project to set up a Centre for Marine Biotechnology around Chennai. These developments have clearly shows the growing opportunities in the field of Marine Biotechnology. Very few Universities are offering Marine Biotechnology Course in India. However, such a small volume of manpower could not meet the growing needs of this booming industry. And hence,. The Department of Biotechnology, AMET University is organizing a series of training programs on Marine Biotechnology especially for students who want to pursue research and job oriented higher education. As first in the series, this training program is being organized specially for final year Undergraduate students from Life Sciences Discipline. The training program is for five days with fullest concentration on the practical aspects. Students will be taken care to get hands on experience in the following techniques.
v Fluorescent Pseudomonads
v Luminescent Bacteria
v Marine actinomycetes
v Gene transfer in marine microbes
v Industrial enzymes from marine microbes
v Molecular Biology of Marine microbes

Fee details
Registration fee for UG students is Rs.600/-. Since limited accommodation is available, outstation students requiring accommodation during 16-20 Feb 2010, have to pay Rs. 1250/- inclusive of registration fee. The fee includes working lunch, light refreshments, training materials and training manual. Mode of payment for both registration and accommodation is through Demand Draft from a Nationalized Bank in favor of AMET payable at Chennai

How to apply?
We encourage final year UG students to apply for this training program. Since the participants’ number is very limited (only 20 candidates), interested students may send their request for registration forms well in advance either by post or e- mail (ametmarinebiotech) with their resume. Selected candidates will be intimated along with registration form by 05-02-2010 through e mail only. The selected candidates have to send the filled in registration forms along with respective DD (in favour of AMET) through proper channel to the following address on or before 10-02-2010. .Registration forms received after 10-02-2010 will not be considered at any circumstances.

Intimation of selected candidates : 05-02-2010
Last date for registration : 10-02--2010
Inauguration of the training : 16-02-2010
